"Chatbot" means two different things in this market
The first is a menu tree. Reply 1 for price list, 2 for opening hours, 3 to speak to someone. It is cheap, it is predictable, and it is what most Malaysian SMEs have actually seen. It also fails the moment a customer types something the menu did not anticipate — which, for a real shop, is most messages.
The second reads your own business information and answers in sentences. Ask it "ada stok tak untuk yang biru?" and it checks what you told it about stock and colours rather than offering you a numbered list. This is what people now mean by an AI assistant, and it is a different product with a different price.
🔑 Work out which one a vendor is selling before comparing anything else. A menu tree at RM50 and an assistant at RM199 are not competing on price; they are different tools that happen to share a channel.
Since June 2026 there is a third kind: Meta’s own AI agent, switched on inside the WhatsApp Business app where Meta offers it. What it does, where it is available and what it costs are set out in our guide to Meta Business Agent for Malaysian SMEs.
The line that matters more than any feature: official API or QR code
Every WhatsApp tool in Malaysia sits on one side of this line, and it decides how much risk you are carrying.
QR-code tools ask you to scan a code and then drive your ordinary WhatsApp account like a robot. There is no relationship with Meta. Meta classes this as unauthorised automation and bans numbers for it permanently — and for a shop whose entire customer list lives in one WhatsApp account, that is not downtime, it is losing the contact book with no appeal.
The official WhatsApp Business API is Meta's own channel. It takes longer to set up, it requires business verification, and it costs the vendor money — which is exactly why the tools built on it are not RM30 a month.
Ask the question directly and in writing. A vendor who answers vaguely has told you the answer.
Four things worth testing before you pay anyone
Give it a rojak message. Real Malaysian customers write "boleh COD tak? how much for 2pcs ah". A bot that handles clean English and clean BM separately will fall over on the mixture, and the mixture is the normal case, not the edge case.
Ask it something it cannot know. The correct behaviour is to stop and hand you the enquiry. The dangerous behaviour is a confident invented answer — a delivery date it made up, a discount you never offered. You will not see this in a demo built to succeed; you have to go looking for it.
Ask who updates it when your prices change. If the answer is "you, in a dashboard", budget for the evenings you will spend there. If the answer is "we do, send us the new list", check whether that is included or billed.
Ask what happens at handover. When the bot steps aside, where does the enquiry go, how fast, and does it carry the conversation with it? A handover that drops the customer back into silence is worse than no bot.
Languages, and the one nobody tests
Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin are table stakes for a Malaysian tool, and most vendors will list all three. What separates them is mixed BM-English inside a single message, which is how a very large share of Malaysian customers actually write.
Test that specifically. It is the case that shows whether a tool was built for this market or translated into it.
What a good one refuses to do
This reads like a weakness in a sales page, which is why almost nobody writes it down, and it is the most useful thing to ask about.
Jawabkan will not give medical advice, will not invent a price or a delivery date it was not given, will not send unsolicited messages, and stops and calls you the moment a customer asks for a person. Each of those is a deliberate limit rather than a missing feature, and each exists because the alternative damages the business it is supposed to help.
Whoever you are comparing, ask them what their assistant refuses to do. A vendor who says "anything you want" is describing a liability.
Where Jawabkan fits, and where it does not
It fits a Malaysian SME that already gets real enquiries on WhatsApp, answers the same questions repeatedly, and loses some of them to slow replies after hours. It is built on the official API, for your existing number, from your own price list, in BM, English and Mandarin including the mixture. Connect that number through Meta’s official onboarding flow, then Jawabkan answers from the business information you approve.
It does not fit if you want marketing blasts — those are charged per recipient by Meta and are not part of the subscription. It answers in a chat window on your own website, on Telegram, on LINE and on your WhatsApp Business number — nowhere else: it does not take payments or process orders, does not post to social media or reply to Instagram and Facebook comments, and cannot reply inside Shopee or TikTok Shop chat, because those marketplaces do not permit third-party automated replies.
If one of those is what you needed, this is the wrong tool and it is cheaper for both of us to say so here.
Frequently asked
What is the best WhatsApp chatbot in Malaysia?
There is no single answer, because the tools sold under that name do different jobs. Decide first whether you need a menu tree or an assistant that answers from your own price list, then whether it runs on the official WhatsApp Business API, and compare within that group rather than across it.
Will a WhatsApp chatbot get my number banned?
It can, if it works by scanning a QR code and driving your ordinary WhatsApp account. Meta treats that as unauthorised automation and bans numbers permanently. Tools built on the official WhatsApp Business API do not carry that risk.
Can it handle mixed Bahasa Malaysia and English in one message?
Jawabkan does, and it is worth testing on any tool you are considering. A message like "boleh COD tak? how much for 2pcs ah" is the normal way Malaysian customers write, not an edge case.
Do I need a new phone number?
No. It will run on your existing WhatsApp Business number, with nothing to install on your phone. WhatsApp is waiting on Meta to approve Jawabkan as a provider, so today the same assistant answers on your website, Telegram and LINE.
What happens when the chatbot cannot answer?
It should stop rather than guess. Jawabkan hands the enquiry to the owner by email, including the recent conversation and any contact details the customer gave, instead of inventing an answer.
How much does a WhatsApp chatbot cost in Malaysia?
Before comparing plans, use the free lead-loss calculator to estimate whether slow replies are costing enough to justify automation.
Jawabkan is RM199 or RM399 a month, and that price does not rise with the number of messages. On WhatsApp, Meta's own messaging fees are passed on at cost with no markup. The wider picture, including what Meta charges and why some tools are RM30, is set out on our WhatsApp Business API pricing page.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes, and without a sales call. Paste your own price list and business details into the self-test on this site and ask the assistant up to ten questions yourself. No payment details and no commitment.
